Developing A Heart For The Lost

Lamentations 3:51 says, "Mine eye affecteth mine heart." How true this simple statement is! For example; why is it that all of the television commercials concerning feeding the hungry in other countries show pictures of starving children? They are trying to capture your heart! These organizations know that when they can get a hold of your heart then they can get you to donate to their cause. When they can capture your eyes...they have also captured your heart! - "Mine Eye Affecteth Mine Heart"
Why is it that when I see my wife from across the church auditorium and she winks at me, my heart qill begin to twidderpate? - "Mine Eye Affecteth Mine Heart"
Why does McDonald's pay so much in advertising every year. - "Mine Eye Affecteth Mine Heart"
How can we apply these principles to our Christian lives and develope a heart that desires to reach the Lost? I believe that we must focus in on two basic truths.
First, we must see others' depravity! As you sit their reading this blog, there are people all over the world sitting in depravity! Deprived from truth, hope, biblical love, and peace are just a few! When we see the needs of others and look at what we can do to help meet those needs, we put ourselves in a place of opportunity! The opportunity to make a difference!
Secondly, we must see others' destination! As I think of a few children and families that I have the opportunity to minister to on my bus route; I see a lot of potential for each child, but I also see a lot of future heartache. Children at the age of 6 and 7 who have zero respect for authority. Eight to ten year old boys who already can't wait to be old enough to get drunk! THESE KIDS HAVE A DESTINATION, and it is not looking very promising! Most importantly, I know that if those I come in contact with do not accept Christ, then there ultimate destination is HELL!
When we as individuals see our classmates, neighbors, and co-workers in their depravity and at their final destination; it should move us to make a difference. My challenge for you this week is to look for people to reach. Don't just go from class to class with no purpose! Purpose to see others, because it is true... - "Mine Eye Affecteth Mine Heart"
